Ads stage 3: market and keyword research

DoneGoogle Ads

We measured real demand in your 27 ZIP codes and chose 63 keywords in 6 groups, held 86 in reserve with a reason each, and excluded 228 words that would waste money — 245 after the first two reviews of real searches.

What we did

How many people search for TV mounting in your area? The launch keywords are searched about 3,770 times a month in your 27 ZIP codes; a typical click costs about $10.47.

Which searches do we pay for? 63 keywords (73 with their match types) in 6 groups, each landing on the page that answers it:

Group Keywords Searches a month Typical click Lands on
TV mounting service 15 1,700 $10.59 home page
Near me 15 960 $8.54 home page
Chicago 6 410 $12.84 home page
Fireplace TV 11 320 $2.96 Fireplace TV page
TV installation 8 280 $17.64 home page
Frame TV 8 100 $21.17 Frame TV page

Why only exact and phrase match? "Broad" keywords let Google guess what is close enough — without data, that money goes to random searches. 0 broad keywords at launch; broad only after 30+ requests a month.

What about good keywords we did not launch? 86 kept in reserve, each with a reason and a next step: add now, test after week 1, ask you, or not planned.

Which searches do we never pay for? 228 excluded words at launch: do-it-yourself and "how to", job seekers, other companies and stores, research words, services you do not offer. Before launch we tested them against real buying searches: 21 words people use when they are ready to hire stay open.

After the first real searches we added 7 more, and after day 5 another 10 — 245 in the plan now. What they blocked is in "the first 4 days".

Can two groups compete for the same search? No — every search has one home. Routing rules send "fireplace" only to Fireplace TV and "frame tv" only to Frame TV: 0 overlaps.

Who else shows up? We checked prices, hours and reviews of the top Chicago competitors. Your edge: open till 10 pm, 7 days a week.

Why it matters

Every keyword we bid on is one people really search in your area, and every word that brings the wrong people is blocked before it costs anything.
